There are scattered articles in Amateur publications (which are sometimes
great and sometimes a waste). The best and most practical Engineering book
I've ever seen is the Antenna Engineering Handbook by Jasik, First
edition, MCGraw-Hill book company, library of congress 59-14455. It has an
entire chapter on VHF and UHF communications antennas as well as chapters
on general theory. It is the easiest to understand and most practical
antenna engineering textbook I've ever seen, and doesn't contain the
wive's tales of non-professional texts.

The ARRL Antenna Handbook has both the theory and some actual construction
info for a series of high performance Yagis. If you are interested in drawings
and tubing sizes, etc. this is probably it.
