Update and Thanks: NYC AM/FM Reception problem solved - was: AM/FM reception in Midtown NYC

Greetings.

Through an embarassing sequence of contract arrangements, I find myself in
an awkward spot. I apologise for how far off-topic my question may be, but
I don't know where else to ask. I hope one or more of you can help - this
is potentially financially rewarding. Let me explain:

I am a control sytems programmer. Normally, I integrate the media rooms of
large corporations under one control system, and I work in the OH-IN-KY
tristate.

Now I am obligated to to a home theatre installation in New York City. One
of the many things for which I was unprepared was poor radio reception. We
can recieve clearly maybe 5 FM, no AM, and no WX stations, on two different
tuners, even after a panic trip to the Wiz for some little Jensen amped
antennae. Here's what I'm looking for:

1. Information - is this kind of reception just normal? The site is right
on the east river in midtown.

2. Information - if you live in a similar area, how do you deal with it? Is
there a 'sure thing' product for NYC radio reception?

3. Service - if any of you know of, or work for, a company which offeres
antenna installation for AM/FM/WX with guaranteed results, I'm sure my
company can make a deal.

I'm coming back to town on 5/23/2001. Good tips are worth a drink of your
choice, and of course, a job may be in the offing. Go easy on me - I'm
pretty damn ignorant of radio.

Thanks in advance-
Pat Santucci

Here's what I meant to add!:

Update and Thanks: NYC AM/FM Reception problem solved.

I knew I was right to ask on Usenet. You have provided me with options
enough to satisfy my customer :
1. Tap existing building antenna
2. Add exterior antenna
3. Build tuned, diretional antenae (several designs also provided!)
4. Get music through alternate means (DTV music stations, Streaming Media,
Etc)

We laid out the options (and proved that no useable FM was present on the
Time-Warner Cable feed), and the customer gave us the punchline:

"Ah, F--- it. Who listens to the radio anyway?"

Now if he'd only said that a month ago, you wouldn't have had the chance to
offer your expertise. B-}=

Thanks Again-

For AM reception, try Radio Shack's AM LOOP ANTENNA.  This thing really works,
I use mine everyday.

You don't plug it in, it doesn't use batteries, you don't even have to connect
it to your radio, just sit it next to your radio.

If it doesn't work in your building, return it within 30 days for refund.
