For cheap, dirty and probably effective results you'd need three
items: A standard SO-239 coax connector, a short length of perhaps #12
solid copper wire and a 12 inch diameter metal pie pan. Install the
coax connector via screws & nuts in the center of the upside-down pie
pan with the threaded side of the connector down. Solder a 6.15 inch
length of the wire to the "up" side of the coax center post. Run an
RG-58 cable to the radio. You'd have a decent 1/4 wave ground plane
antenna cut for 480 Mhz.
