i am making my first dipole antenna,i want to use it 10-80 meters,I would like
to use ladderline from the dipole to my antenna tuner.Do you think that the 300
ohm TV type ladderline will work for me?I cant find any 450 ohm ladderline
where i live.I have found the 300 ohm type at Radio shack.Any and all advice is
most welcome.

For anti-resonant one wavelength dipoles, 300 ohm line will yield a
higher SWR and may be harder to match than 450 ohm line so you can
expect matching problems on some bands. Hopefully, those won't be
your favorite bands.

Make your dipole 1/2WL on the lowest frequency of operation and feed
it with an integral multiple of 1/2WL feedline. Fine tune the other
bands from there.

I used the cheapest 300 ohm twinlead I could buy (Radio Scrap). The antenna was
put up as 'temporary' and when I took it down 13 years later the twinlead was as
good as
when I put it up. I got consistent compliments on my signals from local and Dx
stations.

I have used Radio Shack 300 ohm feedline on all of my wire antenna's for the
last 25 years. It is much lighter than the 450 stuff, and since the
antenna is Non Resonant I don't know what the impeadance of the antenna is
anyway.

I use a 132 ft. dipole with 450 ohm ladder line but 300 is fine.
Either way you have to use a tuner as you know. You can look in any
Ham magazine and find several sources for 450 ohm line also.
