I am passing along this message because at least a few individuals on this NG
are so effected.

" Fractal Antenna Systems, Inc., is engaged in a pro-active effort to have its
copyrighted materials--which include pictures, diagrams, and files-- removed
from unauthorized sites on the internet.

The firm reminds radio amateurs that availability via  public access of others'
copyrighted material through an unauthorized  web site does not constitute
"fair use" . Widely accessible distribution media do not fall under copyright
"fair use".

The firm requests that unauthorized, and often inadvertant placing of its
material on said web sites be discontinued effective immediately and that all
such material be  absent from said web sites by August 15, 2001.

Any materials found to be accessible publicly which contain said material after
August 15, 2001 will be considered in violation of the firm's copyright(s) and
subject to further legal action by Fractal Antenna Systems, Inc."

Questions regarding said copyrights must be sent in writing via registered mail
 wth SASE to:

2 Ledgewood Place
Belmont MA 02478

The sender will receive a request form and term sheet for use.

still serves as the largest site on the Web that presents reviews of
fractal designs that claims have been made against.  You are invited
to observe, review, download, and test these assertions, claims, and

The fact of the matter is Chirpster is trolling for 34 cent stamps guess
postage would be a financial drain.

I have no interest in said copyrights, unsaid copyrights or anything
fractal.  Guess I'm safe from the long arm (strong arm) of the law (-yers).
Oops, I used "the word" - damn, now I'm probably in trouble.

" would be welcome.
What country are you people in? You do not make it clear.
Fractal does not mean Fractious.

Speaking for myself I would be interested to see pics. of what all the fuss
is about.
Can anyone  direct me to such sites.

Are you kiddin?  I don't "so" qualify in the least - obviously.  ;-)

I recall a couple of years ago a similar posting to the affect
(nothing effective about these at all) that the readership here could
not use the term fractenna without further applying the annotation TM
to it (or similar legalese that was just as inappropriately being
foisted upon us).

I pointed out at the time that this was a requirement of the
commercial concern - not us.  I also pointed out that if the
continuation of the usage of fractenna persisted without it
(specifically by the commercial concern) that the term would fall into
the public domain.  This is an example of a deliberate choice of
theirs to pass on this observance.

All will note that nowhere in many years has this commercial concern
put forth any effort to keep this term out of the public domain and as
a consequence they have abandoned this "right."  We can all anticipate
the grief and clamor that will bring when this finally sinks in -
especially from deep pocket investors that perceive their IP
investment is being frittered away in newsgroups with each posting
stripping away yet another protection in service of ego (but, in all
fairness, nothing of value is lost either way).

I notice that Fractenna's TM'ed company symbol (see
http://www.fractenna.com) shows the fractal antenna being connected directly
to ground by way of a dead short.  ARRL at least includes a coil.

Take the first digit of each of the three patents listed on their website
"6", "6", "6".
