The scratches *should* be caused by dirt/grit between the magnet and the
car... The best way to prevent this is to start with a clean (new?) magnet
mount, and wipe the area on the car *before* you place the antenna on it.
When you remove the antenna, put a plasic bag around the antenna base,
so that any metal bits the magnet attracts never get stuck on the magnet
base. When you use the antenna again, remove the bag and the magnet
should be clean.

It is a bad idea to put *anything* between the car and the magnet, as it
will
alter the performance of the antenna for the worse...

Thanks for all the response. Why doesn't someone invent a product for this
purpose? I hesitate to put an adhesive underneath for fear of what it would do
to my paint as my Jimmy is only 3 mos old. I kind of like the response of
plastic wrap and can bring it up above the magna mount platform a bit for when
it does get picked up off its platform when I drive beneath the tree branch in
my driveway. I am impressed with all the attention and have another question
to post later as an alternative to this magna mount. My only hesitation is the
range will not be there.

Hi Sir. I've had a Wulson 1000 on the roof of my van for years
now. I'm not gonna care about a few scratches that may occur from it
once I take the thing off and sell it. What is the big deal about
POSSIBLY getting some scratches on your paint? Once you take it
off....there is a product called "Touch up paint"....that should take
care of any potential scratches.

Sorry....i'm just kinda amazed at the attention your post was
getting. Remember this. 1) It's JUST a car. 2) Scratches can't be
seen through a magnet mount. 3) You mean to tell me you won't
sacrifice a 4" diameter of paint for your CB antenna? ;-(

Hi Sandrasues,

I don't know what the others suggested as I don't have time to read all
of their replies. I will mention that the best performace will be
obtained if you drill a hole in your roof and mount the antenna
permanently. I can see you cringing already. If your vehicle is
leased, pay a body-man 75$ to fix the hole when you get rid of it. If
you sell privately, put in a 3/4" hole plug (available everywhere).

The cost of a decent mag-mount, which will wear out in a few years, will
offset the cost of plugging the hole at the end and you'll enjoy better
peformance - and less hassle.

CORRECTAMUNDO ANDY!

One other possibility that no one mentioned up till now would be to use
a carbide drill bit and actually make a 'thru-the-glass' antenna mount.

It could be a standard 3/8 X 24tpi mount, and simply ground the coax to
the window trim frame inside the vehicle.

Then you can plug that hole or replace the windshield when selling the
vehicle.

You won't have to worry about RUST!

And the new windshield will look cleaner and add to the resale value of
the vehicle anyway!

I am really impressed each time I read the responses here. Now that was a
great idea by using a plastic bag. I like that! Some of these ideas seem to
outdo the others, like putting an adhesive on the area? Isn't creating a
mark? Or am I missing the point?

I did get some attention didn't I ?
I wish you would have said it was all meant in humor FIRST, but no, I had to
read and get mad and madder only to find you didn't mean it.
This Jimmy is my first new car purchase in 20 yrs and if I can keep this one
for 20 yrs as I did the other, more power to me....I do take care of my
vehicle. I am trying to prevent damage not ask what to do because of
damage.....
........and I'm sorry what kind of antenna do you have? A wulson? whats that?

Thanks for the intelligent answer. And your right, I was cringing at the
thought of a hole in a 3 month old vehicle....lol I am purchasing and plan on
keeping this ride for a long time, like the last new-car purchase 20 yrs
ago....
