Radioshack Handheld Transceiver Performance: Long vs. Short Antenna?

Radioshack Handheld Transceiver Performance: Long vs. Short Antenna?

Post by Kent Smi » Fri, 29 Dec 1995 04:00:00

I have a couple RadioShack TRC-222 transceivers that have about a 4
foot antennna with loading coil in middle.  RadioShack currently has
on sale the higher priced model with the short *** antenna which
would sure be more convenient.

Can anyone comment on the relative performance expected and/or the
antenna gains of the two antenna configurations?  Thanks much.

Also would be interested in any comments regarding the quality of the
RadioShack high-end handheld vs. the Maxon.

Rat Shack sells a *** ducky ant. that you can affix to your current
units for $5 - $10 which I occasionally place on my handheld (TRC-221)  Is
the range as good?  Hell no, but it is more convienent like you said.  A
long antenna is always better performance wise than a ***, but for
short range communications they are ideal.  Greg.

Isn't the RS model manufactured by Maxon?
