Post by Bob Tox » Sat, 18 May 1996 04:00:00

I did NOT MAKE any posting to this or any other newsgroup about
"OWN YOUR OWN 1-900 NUMBER FOR A VERY LOW RATE!!!!!!!!!!"

If you look at the header (top part of the message) you will see that
the News system thinks that the article was posted from

of Houston, Texas.  I am working with the University of Houston Police
Department to try to track down the criminal.

This address too may have been faked.  Since this crime was discovered
Friday Evening there isn't anyone technical available at the University
of Houston to investigate until Monday.

The Technical contact at U of H (as listed in the InterNIC record) is:
Alan Pfeiffer-Traum

713-743-1531

I've already left voice mail; there is no need for you too.

Again, you and I are the victims of a computer crime.

I bet those living in Houston won't be too pleased to know you'd like to waste
their tax dollars tracking down someone who faked an identity to post a
message on the UseNet.

Actually, the University of Houston Police Department is VERY interested in
tracking down anyone making criminal use of their computer systems.

Hey, I think that if someone is posting an aticle like this on this News Server
then they need to be found!!, Simple as that!!!

This is a news area read by many young boys, and I feel they do not
need to be scaned

If you are worried about tax dollars than why don't you complain
to our "wonderfull" president about his lack of balancing a budget,
oh and how about his "$75" a piece haircuts (you can go to fantastic
sams for about $12 bucks!!

Let the law take its course and find this "fool" (i say it in the nastiest
form of the verb allowed on this news server) who apperently wants to
con young boys or that there of.

Thank you!!

I would like to know what they expect to do to the guy if they ever
caught him ?  After all, there are no laws written in stone about
spamming yet.  I personally had my account hacked recently over this, so
would be interested to hear about it !

Was what he posted criminal or was it the act of faking a return path what you
consider to be "criminal"?

As I see it both.  How would you like someone to use your name in a scam?
Does the word "framed" come to mind or how about "defamation of
character"?  Our e-mail addresses are our identity on the internet and it
is criminal what was done.

As far as running a scam, I hope you feel that that is act criminal act.
