CW practice software for the Mac?

Post by Napisto » Wed, 17 Dec 1997 04:00:00

I have been using Morse Trainer 1.1.1 but it has some problems (won't even go
down to 5 wpm). Are there anything other programs out there? I found some
programs on the web: Morse Master, Sparks II, Morse Mania, etc, but I can't get
them to make any sound (I'm using System 7). Any suggestions?

Hello Nancy.  I have played around with all the programs you
mentioned, and all of them work just fine with System 7.5.5.  What this
suggests to me is that you are using an older version of System 7, with
the old sound manager.

With System 7.5.2 (I think) Apple came out with a new method of
handling sound on the Macintosh.  A few older programs are not
compatible with the new sound driver, and many newer programs are not
compatible with the old sound driver.

At one time, Apple made the new sound manager software available free
at their web site, but I cannot say for sure if it is still there.  But,
since you seem to need it, by all means check to see if it is.

If it is not, you'll have to find another source of the sound
manager.  Perhaps you have a friend with a newer operating system
version.  Or perhaps a local dealer will let you copy it.

If you have no success at this, there is only one other choice.  Look
around the internet for the old Novice, or Technician, license tutor (I
think you want version 6).  Anyway, these contain a fairly good morse
tutor that is compatible with the old sound manager.

  Good luck with your quest.
