Well, they're at it again.  There's a Drake TR-5 due to close in two
days that's currently at $787.  Yes you read that right, $787.  The
unit in question doesn't even have the noise blanker option or a power
supply.  Wow.

The TR-5 (while a nice basic radio) is the junior cousin to the TR-7,
which regularly sells for less than that, fully loaded with power
supply.  Mad.

It's just like *** *** Neil!  Sanity goes out the back door and an
over priced item is delivered to the front door.

The more important question is why does Neil care? Are you bidding on it?
If not, what business do you have saying someone else is paying too much
for it? If yes, apparently someone else wants it more than you and
consequesntly is willing to fork over more cash to get it. Hence, you loose
the auction, get over it.

Matthew - thinking people need to stop getting so hung up on their
dislikes of eBay. Take it or leave it, it's that easy!

showing it pays to have the MAX price you are willing to pay so that you
dont get caught up in this insanity!  kinda like couple 572's one new, other
used, for 68 bucks. for the extra 30, get 2 NEW, and not have to worry about
the used one failing for a while!!

Maybe Ebay prices are considered high because rec.radio.swap users are used to
the rock bottom, generally dealer to dealer pricing on this group.  I have sold
equipment on Ebay for a lot more than the asking price on the same items I
listed for sale in this usenet group.  I don't think a lot of the people paying
the top dollars on Ebay even know about usenet groups.

Just my two cents.

Guys,,, I have said this before.. ON ebay the buyer sets the price.. not the
seller... Kind of like "beauty".. the value is in the eye of the beholder...

Neil,
We on rec.radio.swap would like to welcome you to the United States.
Please enjoy your stay in the good ole US of A.

What communist country did you travel from? Here is the US, we have a
capitolistic society. If your  paying to much for something then your
stupid, however being stupid is not a crime.

Enjoy your stay and tell your fellow country men about our great land.

Hello all,

I'm sure this is "beating a dead horse", but all the bickering over Ebay is
ridiculous, there is no absolute value in all this used gear, what one is
willing to pay is their and no one elses business or concern, sure there are
folks paying more for some used items than you can buy new, maybe they don't
have a clue, or maybe they just want that particular item, but that's the way
it goes. As long as sellers are accurately describing their items and not
selling junk, more power to them if they get a good price, I've sold equipment
on Ebay, you don't get all the "tire-kickers", I've never experienced a no-pay
transaction in over 200 transactions, on the swap boards you get alot of folks
commiting to a deal then backing out, many times not even notifying the other
party involved!. Sometimes when you sell on Ebay you get more than you would
expect, other times less, that's the fun and attraction of the whole process.
Ebay is a great place to possibly find an item you are looking for, normally
there is a very good selection of used ham gear, it's hard to dispute it's
popularity. The good ol' swap boards have their place as well. Myself I would
rather see more "quality" gear at the hamfests, but I'm afraid those days are
over.

Just my 6 cents worth (inflation)

John, I agree completely.  I have used both services... Bought and sold.  Never
a really bad deal on either.  Besides, as I have said also, "On Ebay and other
auction services, the buyer sets the value.  Not the seller" .  Have a grt
weekend!

Ebay is nothing more than a huge flea market.
Have seen it tons of times where as one potential buyer has an item in his
hand, a previous "looker" is calling the seller over to the side and offering
more, because he did not buy it the first time he looked at it.
Kind of a reverse of putting an item on the table at a ridiculous price and
then coming down when item has not been sold by noon.It is called free
enterprise.
