Good/Bad ICOM R-3

Good/Bad ICOM R-3

I have been researching the various aspects 2.4 ghz. reception.  In
doing so, I search various websites. According to one website that did
"hands on" testing the R-3's performance on 2.4 ghz. is AWFUL!  It is
"deaf", i.e. poor sensitivity and the tuning range is not high enough.
Some interesting monitoring occurs ABOVE 2450 mhz.  In one test the R-3
had to be within 3 ft. of the test transmission on 2400 mhz.  Contrary
to the ads showing reception of "red neck" in car video transmissions,
it is a TERRIBLE performer on 2400 mhz. according to the webpage
posting.

There are better choices but they are not bundled into a handheld
receiver and are only for the serious monitors willing to configure a S
band monitoring system.  I am in contact with a manufacturer of a really
neat unit for the 2 ghz. range.  If ordering details can be worked out,
I may write an article on S band monitoring and submit it for
publication.
