I have an Icom Q7A with which I'm becoming less and less enchanted. Most
recently, I was boat watching and scanning only a handful of the VHF
marine frequencies. Other people around me had different scanners (Radio
Shack, Unicom) and actual VHF marine hand held radios. In both cases, I
noticed that their systems were much more sensitive to distant
transmissions than my Icom was (even with fresh batteries), and their
radios were receiving transmissions that I totally missed. I was told
that the Q7A has good sensitivity, so I'm wondering why I'm having
terrible reception? Is there a different antenna that I can use or
should I get a different scanner?
