Pro 2042-Euro version going for $560 now and there is a Pro 2006 going
for $395.I can't believe people would pay so much.

You have to keep in mind that not all areas are saturated with
scanners for sale.  I live close to the Kennedy Space Center
so there's plenty to listen to.  Consequently, it is a popular hobby
around here.  I have been to all the pawn shops, flea markets,
and many garage sales looking for used scanners.  Had very little
success.  I went to a hamfest last month and did find a PRO-2004
for $250 and a PRO-2006 for $300.  Neither were in 'excellent'
shape.  I did buy a non-Euro version of a 2042 on Ebay for $180,
a 486 80 MHz tower (complete) for $17, and a 56K modem for
$22.00.  This is much better than I could get locally.  I have also
sold quite a bit there also, which pays for my purchases.  As
with any auction, you have to be smart, have self control, and
set limits.

Also remember that those scanners are no longer produced and are the
last of the models that can receive cellular.  Once they're gone from
Radio Shack's shelves, that's it!  Other scanners can be "tricked"
into getting cellular, mostly by receiving images.  I have compared
the signals received on my PRO-2006 vs. the images on my PRO-51, but I
did not listen to the conversations.  I was doing so purely to check
the frequencies (10.7 MHz, 45 MHz or whatever) and for signal strength
and quality.  Then I quickly tuned away.

Sshh!!  Once Ebay finds out they can receive cell they will pull the
listing.

Probably... they sell everything else!     :)
