Oregon Scientific Weather radio - question

Oregon Scientific Weather radio - question

Post by Bob S » Wed, 29 May 2002 12:15:48

I have just picked up one of these radios - a model WR-8000 - for 5 bucks,
at a garage sale. There was no manual with it, but I only have one question;
is there any way to test it, so you can hear the alert tones/siren/etc? (I'm
referring to when it's on, but on standby, waiting for a weather alert
tone.) I'm curious to see how loud it sounds. Thanks in advance. -Bob /

Check out your NWS service page:
http://tgsv5.nws.noaa.gov/nwr/nwrbro.htm
Find your state and it should tell you what day of the week
weather radio stations test their alert tones.

Oregon Scientific also maintains a website:

http://www2.oregonscientific.com/

Could be that you get find a download-able manual there.  They
aren't a bad outfit by any means.  Call 'em up.

(But buy you weather station from Davis Instruments.  Shhh!)

Oregon Scientific Weather radio - question

I should have clarified a couple of points; one, I did go to their website,
and no info was available, and two, is there a series of keypresses/buttons
that can be entered, to test the alert tone? I'd like to be able to test it
at will, and not have to rely on the NWS test tones, since they usually
happen while I can't use the radio. Thanks for the replies so far, though. I
appreciate it. -Bob

Why not just call them up on the phone?  1-800-whatever.  They are
okay to talk with.

Harry   <--- who thinks you got a great deal on the radio, but who
wants to get a Davis weather station himself.  Just tell me how to
install it in a way that looks nice.  (I'll try calling them and
asking them that.)
