Last week I took a little jaunt down to Londen Stansted Int airport for a
bit of spotting with my scanner. I also had a small cheep airband
reciever with me. I could pick up the GMC and Tower but Approach control
just wouldn't come through although I could hear the pilots. The cheep
reciever could pick up Approach easily. Could it be that the transmission
was so strong as blot out the scanner?? If so what can I do about it?

Often the approach transmition sites are a long way from the airport, so
you cannot hear them without high elevation or a good antenna. You hear
the aircarft due to their altitude.
