Hi Richard:

As far as I know of, the NWS only uses the VHF  weather broadcast
frequencies for all services.  Alerts, watches, and warnings, are
usually proceeded by a 1050? Hz tone that will set off monitoring
receivers you can buy from the 'shack.

You might be thinking of the Skywarn nets, run by the amateurs.
If you ask around, someone probably has that info.
