pager scanning

Does anyone have data on the protocols used by numeric and/or
alphanumeric pagers (Motorola type), perhaps even software that can be
used to decode the data?  I was thinking that one could hook the audio
output of the scanner into the A/D converter of a SoundBlaster card to
decode the stuff.....

Wouldn't it be rather boring to monitor the signals going to numeric
pagers?  I doubt that the alpha-numerics are much more fascinating --
"call office" or "meet drug dealer at corner payphone" mostly.
Anyway, if you closely watch the magazines such as Popular Communications
and Monitoring Times, you will probably eventually see an ad for gear
to monitor that sort of thing.  If not, make friends with some
technicians who work in the paging industry.

Monitoring common carrier paging services is illegal.  I doubt you'll
see the adds mentioned appearing.  Check out the ECPA.
