That sounds like the Sportcat. I don't know much about it but I think
you can get it for under $249. As far as the Radio Shack scanners, the
reason you didn't find one you liked may be because RS has recalled
most of them :-) The Pro43 is a good choice for a handheld but you may
have to pay between $300 and $350 for it. If you want cellular
capability you may want to find one manufactured with a date code prior
to 4A4 (April 94).

P.S. Does anybody know where scanners are sold in Orange County, CA? I only
know of RS and Electronic Times (the store I found the yellow Bearcat at $249.)

Hi, Steve...Welcome to the group. :)

The yellow scanner is only one manufacturer and model. The Uniden
Bearcat 150. Wal-mart here in IL had them on sale for $200 when they first
came out. Uniden also sells a 220XLT that is excellent for the price. RS
has a Pro-43 handheld, their top of the line at a top of the line cost. RS
also sells several others but have been temporarily pulled off the shelf.
These are the Pro-51, Pro-46 and Pro-23. Grab or scam a RS catalog
($2...cheaper if scammed) and check out some of the models in there. There
are several new offerings coming from them.
