PRO-94 Now I'm less impressed!

Post by Av8t » Thu, 18 Nov 1999 04:00:00

I just got a PRO-94 and the more I use it the less I like it.  First, several
people have complained about the audio, that is the only so far that I like.

I have not used it for trunking yet because there are no systems locally.  But
next week I"m going to Florida and I'll give it a try (if I don't sell the
scanner first!)

Problem 1)  Flexable antenna that comes with unit sucks in the 155MHz area
(Police).  It more than sucks in the 33MHz area (Fire, our county fire is all
33MHz).  And sucking even harder is the AirCraft band (my favorite since I'm a
pilot).

Problem 2)  I thought I'd fix problem 1 by hooking it up to an external ant.  I
hooked it up to a Discone antenna (inside my room!). Can you spell OVERLOAD,
INTERMOD, OVERLOAD, INTERMOD, oh, did I mention OVERLOAD!  155MHz area (our
city and county police!) anytime a transmitter keys up, its distorted due to
all the other stations coming in!

I hope the 800MHz trunking features are good since that is the real reason I
bought this scanner.....

I've owned dozens of scanners over the years and the best over-all preforming
has been the OLD PRO-2006 (and I don't give a ***about cell phones either).

Gee,maybe because the antenna that comes with the crummy radio is a
800MHZ antenna.Buy yourself another antenna,or even better buy another radio
and an antenna.

RETURN to RS NOW! I had my unit one day and took it back the next. You
have 30 days to return it.

No, I bought it on sale $199 (normally $299).  I'll wait til the sale to end,
and sell it on eBay and probably make a profit.  Wouldn't be the first time...

I'd bet the Pro-94 will never go back above $199 with all the complaints and
returns going on. The local RS here sold six so far and they have four of
them back...

Might be wise to just get your $199 back...
