Does it work for you?

Will it work in Windows 95?

I have had the AR8K and  the INF-8000 inspected by EDCO to confirm
they are working correctly, but I cannot get the software to control
the radio. I have verified that the settings are correct on the AR8K,
the INF-8000 is inserted correctly, the com ports are configured
correctly, and there is over 600k of the first 640k of memory
available.

I have tried it on 3 different IBM compatable pc's and it has not
worked on any of them. I have even gotten a new copy of the software
to ensure it is not corrupt and is working properly. AFter configuring
everything correcty and going to the scan screen after entering upper
and lower frequencies to scan between, I must either hold down the up
(or down) arrow key, or push it repetedly to make the "computer" keep
scanning. If you let up on the button, it stops scanning.

The AR8K does flash "REMOTE" and you can then use the local button to
regain local control of the scanner, but the scanner display will not
echo the screen display frequency, or scan/enter any frequency from
the computer. I have check the scan step and mode to make sure they
are compatable, still no go.

I tired to load a frequency file from Scancat into the radio, but that
doesn't work either.

I bought a breakout box and hooked it up to verify that the cable was
working (although I don;t know which of the lights are supposed to be
which color at which time.....

This is very frustrating, as it has been going on a long time, I was
misreable without my AR8K, whilst I had it sent back to EDCO for
checkout. Now, after god knows how many hours, I still cannot get
these things to communicate.

Anyone have any suggestions.

Make sure that the settings are correct on the AR800
the radio has to be in expert mode
baud rate at 9600
delim setting will have two settings
CR,LF and CR

MAKE SURE THAT THE RADIO IS SET TO CR and NOT CR,LF
OR THE PROBLEM YOU MENTIONED WILL OCCUR

Does anyone or is there a list with all of the PL/CTSS codes available?  I have been searching frequencies at different places and cannot find the tones they use.  Either they are not using tones or I just do not have a complete list.  They might also be using digital codes.  Either e-mail me or post here, I do check this area every other day or so.  Thanks in advance.

From the  FAF - Frequently Asked Frequencies
      on  ftp://oak.oakland.edu

Motorola differs from EIA with:  XZ (L1), XA (L2), XB (L3),
YZ (L4), YB (L4A), ZA (L5). ICOMM does not use 97.4 and uses one
less than the amateur numbers above that (i.e. ICOM #25 = 162.2).

To reinforce the need for expert mode for CR delimiter, if you run the
radio in novice mode then switch to expert mode and configure the
delimiter for CR, then switch back to novice mode, the radio will
automatically revert back to issuing a delimiter of CR,LF

That is: CR delimiter *cannot* be used in novice mode. If the software
you are running needs CR, then you MUST be in expert mode to implement
it.

Also, a study of the manual reveils a note that after any changes to
the configuration of the AR8000, the radio should be switched off then
back on again before the changes can take effect. I guess this is to
reset the internal software of the radio and for the radio to pick up
the new settings. (In reality, I have noticed that powering down and
powering back up again is not always neccessary BUT occasionally I
get a problem with a hang up, switching off/on sorts it out.

Have fun - Enjoy!
