RS's 1000 channel pro-2042 model a joke

This new scanner by RS with oooohhhh 1000 channels....2042
      wow.  no wow.  no nuttin'/

My BC 210xlt is more sensitive than this new high-tech
sham of a radio....does more things but cannot pick up
      signals.....

I programmed in the 460's and the 488's I normally listen to
in the first bank and turned my BC 210xlt on to the "ON"
      position....and listened.

the RS 1000 channel unit missed the 460's and the 488's
80 percent of the time as the BC just kept them coming
      as I made notes....

the RS model is good for the 155's and the 46's. and the
42's....much like the results of my old bc 890 xlt...which
is an impotent piece of limp-burger.

The speaker is terrible compared to the bc 210xlt.
the sound is terrible compared to the 210 xlt.

what we have here is programming 1000 channels and not being
      able to hear anything much.....

      Ain't progress wunnerful?

I am taking this unit back to RS today and see about a new
mobile unit they have with 100 channels....if it's anything
as good as the RS Patrolman scanner in my car, then it will
suffice....if not, well, RS scanners are suspect.  At least
      the table models....

      bill conduit
      etc.

      i don't have the

I thought he was pretty clear in what he was saying. The sensitivity
sucks on the RS model, especially in the uhf range. And was
outperformed by the 210.

Correct me if I am wrong, but are you trying to say you like your BC
210 XLT better than the Pro 2042?

Yes, I will correct you if you are wrong...and I am not saying that
I like my 210xlt better than the amateur 2042 because I no longer
   have the 2042.

What I was saying is pretty clear...that the sensivitivy sucks on
the RS model, especially in the uhf range.  was outperformed by the
    210 xlt.

   That is what I said.

In addition: if my bc 300 was still working right it would have
been more sensitive too...but it's ill.  It works fine for a few
weeks and then gets tired real fast and goes to sleep....

   bill conduit
   that is what I said....echo

Ulp! Gasp!  Wheeze!

But say......there are factors worth mention here.  Let's take for granted
that the PRO-2042 didn't hear certain things.  There are two distinct
possibilities immediately up on the table.........

1.  The PRO-2042 might have been defective.....and deserving of repair.
    Failures do happen..........rare, though.

2.  The Uniden rig was "hearing things".  Inferior receivers, as Uniden is
extremely guilty of producing, are susceptible to hearing things that
are not really there......images, intermod, crossmod, desense....etc.

Uniden is infamous for peddling lots of sizzle at the expense of no steak.
Inferior receivers can make superior ones look like turkeys at first and
second glances.

I'm not saying this is the case for your situation, but it is always worth
a closer look,,,,,Uniden being Uniden and all..........  They will slick ya
and make ya feel good abount it.  Warm fuzzies and such..........

'Sniff.....

I just bought a 2035 (same radio with different internal software.) and
it slaughters my BC855.  I can now listen to both sides of the PD in my
county (the '855 only got dispatch) and I can hear police dispatch in
the neighboring three counties, too!

I bought two 2035's and one of them is definitely more sensitive than
the other, but they do both beat the 855!

Are you sure the attenuator is not switched in on the back of your 2042?

Also, I agree with Bill;  my BC855 seems to have *no* image rejection.
