Great New DX-394 Mods & Website (DX-398/ATS-909/FRG-7 coming)

Checkout http://www.monitor.co.uk/ . I just discovered it, appears to be
very new. Well organized, clean, clear photos, graphics, descriptions of why
and how-to for modifications to the Radio Shack/Tandy DX-394 General
Coverage Communications Receiver. Also has PDFs of manuals and schematic.

Along with the 850 plus member user group at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RADIOSHACKDX394/ and the collection of mods at
http://www.mods.dk/view.php?ModelId=573, this new site helps make the DX-394
the most thoroughly hacked, researched and documented radio in the world.

I'm quite positive he was talking about the radio, not the site...

Correction: the rating was increased about Jan 28/2005, not 2004, correcting
an obvious mistake. This longstanding, unsubstantiated 1H rating on
DXing.com probably adversely affected the opinions of some uninformed
individuals.

A rating of 3 is still crap!

They sure do, Frank! I sent the webmaster a message complimenting him on his
work with the comment that the one thing missing was credit to the inventors
of the mods, "from the pioneering Frank Cathell to whoever had developed
these new ones I had never seen before". I have no idea who is behind the
site and whether it's motivated by anything other than enthusiasm to share
what he/she has done. It's first class, all the way.

Well done site!  Damn, some of these mods look familiar!

Not according to DXing.com who gave it 3: " A rating of 1 to 5 stars for the
model as a value on the used market.
HHHHH Excellent HHHH Very Good HHH Good HH Fair H Poor. "

That Panasonic RF-4900 you sold for 85.90 is rated by the same folks at 2
(HH) - that's closer to crap, but still 'Fair'. On Mar 30, you posted that
you wanted to swap it for a DX-394
http://groups.google.ca/groups?q=rogers.mail%40ntlworld.com&start=10&... .
Sounds like an upgrade from a 'Fair' to a 'Good' value radio and
inconsistent with your expressed opinion.

The Kenwood R-2000 you were selling off in 2003 is rated at 4 (HHHH) by
DXing.com. That's 1H more than the DX-394 and it sells for 2-3 times the
price on the used market. Just a little less crappy, was it? ;-)
