Boycott Radio Shack (Tandy is member of CTIA)

I boycotted Radio Radio Shack because RS's Parent company, Tandy,
is a member of the Cellular Telephone Industry Association (CTIA)
that forced the Electronic Communications Privacy Act 1986 (ECPA) onto us.

I decided to boycott RS when a RS Droid was explaining to another customer
"with this radio, you can tune to the police and listen to all the things
they don't want the public to know about".  When I asked if that was a
newer radio that could intercept cellular communications, the droid became
upset and began shouting at me "IT'S ILLEGAL TO EAVESDROP ON CELLULAR" ect.

The other customer got a worried look on his face and quietly sneaked
out of the store while the droid, now gritting his teeth and clenching
his raised fist, continued to shout, "IF YOU LISTEN TO CELLULAR, YOU
WILL KNOW ALL THE THINGS THEY DON"T WANT THE PUBLIC TO KNOW ABOUT!"

I just wanted to listen to the radio, I didn't want to get involved in
a political issue.

And if you had commented on the recent NPRM concerning scanner design
(they wanted to pot the interior of the scanner), you'd know that
Tandy hired a law firm to make comments as well.  These comments
basically said everything we've been saying all along.

The CTIA is getting criticism from within.  Tandy is a member because
many other Cellular Telephone issues, such local anti-cellular zoning
laws, are of concern to them.  The anti-scanner legislation is but a
very small piece of the puzzle.  The folks who run CTIA are like many
industry "leaders" --they're ignorant of what they're actually doing.

Get with the program.  If you feel bound to boycott Tandy for
something they do not have control over, then write a letter telling
them what you're doing, and why.  Put up or shut up.

"Beware of the massive impossible!"
