Pro-2030 Repair Question

Pro-2030 Repair Question

Post by Robin Chappel » Tue, 05 Oct 1999 04:00:00

I have a Radio Shack Pro-2030 scanner that needs repair.  I took it to a
repairman and he said the keypad needed replacing.  Is this a
do-it-yourself repair, and if so, where can I get parts/instructions?

Thanks!

Radio Shack has an online listing for many of their scanners.
The PRO-2030 is listed at this link:

http://www.redwaveradio.com/

Their parts listings are always a little vague and you should
call their toll free number (1-800-843-7422) and ask for
more information to be certain this is the correct part.
It appears to be...

11161098  INCLUDES *** KEYPAD

The service manual refers to this part as REF. NO. Y301 but
doesn't have a corresponding part number listed.

Make sure you aren't buying the entire PCB.  Usually, the ***
membrane wears out over a period of time and should be replaced
if cleaning the contacts doesn't solve the problem.  Radio Shack
calls this part a "Keytop".  One for another RS scanner ran me
about $8.00.

If you have experience soldering and have worked on electronic
equipment before, then this is a fairly straightforward job.  Many
times an RF shield has to be unsoldered to gain access to the
keypad.  If you would prefer to have this done for you at a
reasonable rate, contact me directly and I'll help you out.  I offer
this type of service though my website:
