I'm sure there are many of us that would be willing to help.  Only
problem is that your question is a bit broad.  Why don't you start
with where you are so a local might chime in with all the info you
need.  Then, tell us what you're trying to monitor (local PD, Fire,
etc.).  Maybe based on that information and anything else you can tell
us about what you've learned so far, we can help you out.  Without
anything to go on, it's a little difficult to assist you.

Asking for patient knowledgeable individual(s) to familiarize me with
scanning.

Recently purchased a BearCat 245XLT, which was probably jumping in way
over my head for my 1st scanner.  Anyway, I've got it now, and I better
figure it out soon or I'll never hear the end of it from the ol' lady!

So far, I've downloaded SmartScan, and loaded frequencies, trunking
talk-groups, etc from the Uniden Database.  (as per page 62 of the
Operating Guide)

I've read pages 14 thru 18 of the guide repeatedly in conjunction with
the 'Betty Bearcat Starter' Frequency Guide.  Still all I've gotten
besides static, is the Weather Service, and what sounds like a Taxi
service... And Oh yeah, my wife talking on the cordless phone to her
mother (yippie).
