I'd like some comments on the preformance of the AR5000+3. In particular
those owners that can compare it other higher receivers they have used... HF
and VHF/UHF.

I've only uised one on HF for a few hours at a friends house, it didn't seem
to be lacking at all.

With the Collins optional filters the AR5K+3 is nearly equal to R8B
for HF. R8B has edge because of great pass band tuning feature.
For VHF/UHF the AR5K+3 scanner is  equal to/better than Pro-2006.
AR5K+3 has CTCSS but not DCS. Also AR5K+3  won't do Trunking.
You have to decide what you want to listen to and what priorities are.
If single unit wide band receiver is a must then AR5K+3 is unbeatable
(yes it's better than R8500 on both HF and UP performance-wise.
R8500 sucks on HF because of poor {lack of] filter selections.)
However, separate high end HF and high end scanner (eg BC780XLT)
will get you better dedicated performance for less money. But you wind
up with 2 radios rather than one.
