Hi Jeremy,

Optoelectronics sells decoders which can decode CTCSS (PL Tones),
DCS and DTFM tone.

The simplest rendition of a "tone finder" is a Low Pass Filter
with a cutoff at around 250 Hz on the high end and maybe 50 Hz
on the low end. Hang the input of this filter on the baseband
audio output pin of the scanner's NFM Discriminator chip, and
then hang a frequency counter on the output of the LPF. It'll
read the CTCSS tone every time. Slick.

I featured a Low Pass Filter in Vol-2 of my Scanner Modification
Handbook, as well as some other stuff about CTCSS.

I think Richard Smerker's WinTone program will snag CTCSS tones.
