I am condidering buying one of these scanners.  My primary interest is in
listening to a trunked metro police organization.   Anybody have any
thoughts on which one of these might fill that need best.  Good points/bad
points on the two models would also be appreciated.

As mentioned in some previous post, the RS 2006 may be a better choice
because of the "voice squelch" feature. This really works well on trk
systems (at least in my experience here in Dallas). Of course if your
influenced by other factors$$$$...

Does the BC 890XLT or BC8500XLT have anything like this? (continue
scan if no modulation).

If you are near a transmitter (FM/AM/POLICE...) you may have seconds
thoughts on the uniden.  It is very sensitive, but that causes it to
overload and lockup in a city environment with close by transmitters.

The GRE line at radio shack (PRO-2032,PRO-2030,PRO-2006) are not quit
as sensitive, but very tough to overload the front end (lockup) in a
city environment. Also the GRE line have the right cellular spacing
if you plan to restore it, all unidens have the wrong cellular spacing.
