Help on Regency MX-3000 scanner error message

Post by M Yue » Sun, 08 Mar 1998 04:00:00

I have an old Regency MX-3000 scanner.  This scanner has served me well
for years but now when I select scan, it will scan for a second or two
and then it will give me an error message.  I no longer have the
manual.  Anybody have any suggestions on how I can troubleshoot this?

What's the message????

Have you replaced the backup battery lately?

If the error is just "error", then that usually means that the
PLL cannot lock-on to a frequency, either because of a simple
programming error or something more serious.

The MX-3000 is very "dumb", as there is no "error checking" when
you enter a frequency. You can enter "bogus" frequencies (ones
well outside it's receive range, ie: 800MHz) and it will accept
them. But when it tries to scan them, it gets "stuck" on the
"bogus" frequency with a "error" message. It is also easy to get
the decimal point in the wrong place and not even notice it.

Most likely the backup battery went dead and you have lost some
of the programmed frequencies, and now some random frequencies
are in their place.

Replace the battery and step through your channels and make sure
everything is correct. Reprogram any incorrect channels.

Good Luck!
