FX Co PD Va: What happened to voice mode?

Post by gadgetlo.. » Tue, 05 Dec 2000 04:00:00

Noticed recently the Fairfax County police voice frequencies now
contain only occasional bursts of digital data.  Anyone know what
happened to the voice mode?? Did they change freqs?

When I was in the Army, I was stationed at Ft. Belvoir from July 1993 - August
1997 and Fairfax Co was switching to an 800 mhz trunked system. Perhaps they've
finally finished the system and moved? I know most of their work is done via
the MDT's in the vehicles....

That's probably a good explanation unless I hear otherwise. It sounds
like it could be a MDT signal, but I'm not sure. They already had
another frequency for that, though, so I don't know what the deal is.

I did a search on the Percon website (probably the best frequency database
there is), and I found tons of 800mhz freq's in use in Fairfax County. Check
out their website at http://www.perconcorp.com/datafinder/index.html and do a
search under "FCC Databases - US Frequencies". You can search by all kinds of
things, like frequency ranges, agency codes, specific frequencies (you hear
someone talking on a freq, but don't know who it is...)

Definately worth looking at.
