AMTRAK ON BOARD FREQUENCIES

Post by Brian Johns » Fri, 17 Apr 1998 04:00:00

Does anyone have the on board frequencies used by the AMTRAK crew and
conductors as well as other personnel that are used on the San Diegan
from San Diego to Los Angeles or Fullerton?  I would also like the
frequencies that are used on board by these people from Fullerton, CA to
Albuquerque, NM.  I tried all the Burlington Northern/Santa Fe/ATSF
frequencies from my data base but couldn't hear a peep out of the
conductors on my hand held (PRO-30).  I would appreciate your research
on this and the results.

Thank you
Brian

Unless I'm mistaken, most Amtrak trains use the road frequency of the railroad
they're travelling on, and on-board crews use the same channels so they can
keep in touch with road conditions (track warrants, speed restrictions, etc.)

Hope this helps.

True, but on board services uses different frequencies from the road
frequency. You might try 160.440, 160.455 and a60.410 these are listed
in my Altamont Press timetable as on board service frequencies
There are some lists of frequencies available on the web but I don't
have the URLs.

You should be hearing something on your scanner if you have the host
road's frequency punche in. The detectors are on the same frequency
and you should hear them. In my area (Norwalk, CA) you hear Amtrak
more than freights since they generally call out the signal aspects.
