ICOM R10 help!

Post by Tony Rizz » Wed, 06 Oct 1999 04:00:00

I recently purchased an R10.  After I received it I began trying to
familiarize myself with the radio by listening to many of the
frequencies I monitor with my other receivers.  I mainly scan aero-band
freqs so I punched in the frequency for the automated air traffic
advisory coming out of Meigs Field here in Chicago.  I set the proper
band on the R10, tuned in and found it incredibly hard to pick up the
signal.  No matter what I did the broadcast was barely audible and
drowned out by noise.  Just to be sure I pulled out my Uniden xl235 and
tried that- the signal came thru crystal clear.

I have tried everything form switching antennas to using no antenna.  I
have used the attenuator and noise blanker features of the unit to no
avail.    I must admit that many of the features of this radio are
beyond me at this time but It seems that the performance of this radio
in the aero band and others is pathetic.

I am doing something wrong?

Is it possible I got a bad unit?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Tony
