Scratcy volume control on Pro-2006

Post by Tremors8 » Fri, 27 Sep 2002 23:17:02

Hiya,
Pulled out the 2006 after was put away for about 8 months. When I turn it on
the sound gets very Scratcy as I adjust the volume. It's stops as soon as I
stop turning the volume knob. Can I use some electronics contact cleaner and
spray a bit into the knob area to clean it out? Suggestions??
Thanks, Gene

That might work, also try popping the assemply out by loosening the nut
behind the knob and be sure the metal can enclosing the control is
tight. Sometimes they work a bit loose and need to have the tiny metal
tabs pressed down to tighten it up.

I replaced a scratchy volume control on one of my 2006's last year, I
think the part cost about $6 or $7 from RS National Parts.

Radio Shack tuner cleaner does a good job of silencing noisy volume controls.
I have used it on many radios older than your PRO-2006 with excellent results.

Tuner cleaner is only a temporary fix. The problem always comes back. The
only REAL solutions is to replace the pot.

For future reference...What kind, type, size, etc. of POT would I need to
replace it?
