RS Freq.Counter : Mod?

RS Freq.Counter : Mod?

Does anyone know if the RS $149 Freq. Counter can be modified to equate
the sensitivity of the Opto Scout?  Just a quick thought. :)

Pre-amp?  What pre-amp? :)

I also wonder if this freq. counter can be "mod" to scan from 1hz instead
of 1mhz to 1.3Ghz.  Perhaps theoridically impossible but technically
possible. :)

>"dunno", but another idea mod would be to add demodulator, and then who

I just was given a copy of a mag called "2600 The Hacker Quarterly"
On page 26 of the Spring 95 issue (an article "Cellular Interception
Techniques") it says:

"Frequency counters are also a useful piece of equipment. After having
experimented with the Radio Shack unit, I have discovered that using the
supplied telescoping whip antenna, it will lock on a 3 watt phone running
with a 5/8 wave antenna from a range of 50 feet. I'm sure the range could
be increased by using a bandpass filter, amplifier, and/or cellular antenna."

it goes on then about other equip. etc. I too wondered how effective these
are - their cost is more appealing to me than the Scout, but . . .

Ps The "2600 Hacker Quarterly" is one of those mags that you can read
cover to cover. It's chocked full of articles from computers to ATMs to
phones. Unfortunately I just heard of it - it's been around for 11 years!
I was told the Barnes and Noble?? carry it - get a copy!
