Programming ICOM IC-U16 UHF Transceiver channels

Post by Ian Matthe » Sat, 03 Dec 1994 21:19:06

Hi,

I have a IC-U16 hand held transceiver of which 15 channels have been
pre-programmed. I would like to program the 16th channel to monitor the local
emergency service channel, it's frequency is within the transceiver range. Do
I have to send it back to the suppliers (ICOM) or can it be setup through the
keyboard, there is nothing in the owner's manual about it.

Thanks,
Ian

Ian, I've sent you the programming password via e-mail.

RESPONSE:

In addition to the keyboard commands, there also is a clip inside the
radio that needs to be removed.  I'm not sure I can describe it via here
where you need to look to remove it.  Costs too much to stay online!  As
to keyboarding, you need to program in the frequency, offset, xmit CTCSS,
receive CTCSS, channel, etc.  Again, too detailed for here!  I clone all
my U16's; makes it easier.

Hold down the finction key and press 1-5-9-3-5-7.  This places you
in the program mode.  Then hold down func. key and press 5.  The recv.
fqy will b displayed.  Then enter the new fereq frequency from the
keyboard and pres enter. ( Hold down FUNC thru entire process).
To return to OPERAT. mode hold FUNC & press CLR.
Wny not get PROGRAMMING MANUAL from ICOM? ...or ask your supplier
for a copy!
