Florida CAP (Combat Air Patrol) Now Active

Florida CAP (Combat Air Patrol) flights are active today.  Callsigns
VIPER ## working CAP over Orlando.  Callsign TANKER ## also in the area
as refueling support for CAP flights.

Tune to 265.4000 MHz for the action.  VIPER is also working Jacksonville
Center on 134.0000 (Daytona Beach RCO).

This is a real good chance for those newbies to MilAir scanning to hear
some actual comms.  Also those who just got new scanners for Christmas
have fun.

I believe this is in preparation for the upcomming Space Shuttle
launch in Jan/Feb.  This launch is especially sensitive since the
Shuttle will be carrying an Israeli astronaut.

Or were there any Bowl games in Florida today? Thay might have been up there
to provide protection/security for the stadiums.

You're right.  I had not even thought of that.  The Orange Bowl is in
Miami still.  Same with Citrus Bowl?  So homeland defense is alive and
well, I suppose.

Actually the CAP was flying around the Orlando Fl area.   During on of
the refuel trips to the tanker a CAP (combat air patrol, not Civil Air
Patrol) pilots make comment of watching the Penn State game from 22,000'
.   That would have been the Capital One Bowl.

Do you mean Combat Air Patrol or Civil Air Patrol,  The Civil AP is also
known as the US Air Force Auxiliary.  We operate between 148-150Mhz, but it
is digital.
