You might want to look at the review I did on the Antenna Warehouse
Scanner Beam at http://www.milaircomms.com/review_scanner_beam.html

I have one and it made a world of difference over other antennas I've
used included a discone.

Great!  I have the cheaper (not VHF Lo version) of AntennaWarehouse
Discone.  I like it as well for an omni.   If you find something better
than a Discone for omni-directional let us know I'd be interested in
hearing about it.

About 10 years ago I had a Radio Shack vertical.  Can't remember the
model and don't know if its made anymore.  It had three vertical
elements, one for VHF-Lo, VHF-Hi, and UHF.  It also had 3 (maybe 4)
radials which were 90 degrees to the vertical element.  That was a super
great antenna.  I wish I didn't leave it at a house I moved out of 10
years ago!

They were on clearance about three years ago for about $6.00 at Rat
Shack...I think I have some left in the boxes, new, I bought all I could get
because my cousin was a district manager. I know I have one brand new,
unused, assembled in my attic if you are interested. Could probably be
mailed for $5.00 or so, it weighs almost nothing.
