OK, I dl'd BC245INT and tried that, and I also found something called
"Softrol" that can work with BC245's. Both connect just fine, but don't
offer much in the way of useability or ease. Example: When searching, I
find WinScan's hit logging to be helpful, but neither of those two app's
will do it.
But the big thing is being able to upload, download, and export/import freq
files with alpha tags. With WinScan this is easy. BC245INT appears to be
able to import, but I haven't quite figured out the file format yet and I
don't have any user manual. All I get is a bunch of gobbledygook in the
alpha tags (the freq's dl from the scanner easily). I haven't been able to
decipher the method in Softrol yet for this (Softrol supports multiple
scanners so the UI is a little more basic).
So I'm left with WinScan again, which is good but lacks such basic
functionality as being able to edit the alpha tags (instead of deleting and
re-writing from the end). I tried about 20 times to dl SCANCAT Gold. I was
able to connect one time and saw a glimpse of what looked pretty good
(albeit pricey). As of now, though, I cannot make the connection. When I
ping scancat.com I get "TTL Expired in Transit" every time. I cannot find
another place to dl this demo.
If someone has a copy of the ScanCat demo and could email it to me or post
it here, I'd be much obliged (as would the author(s) of ScanCat, I should
think). Any other feedback would be appreciated, too. Maybe I'm being too
picky.
