BC245 XLT Battery Back Order

Post by Floyd Forrest » Fri, 03 Sep 1999 04:00:00

For Everyone's Info:
The BP-180 Nicad battery for the BC245 XLT is on backorder until
"middle of October" according to Uniden Parts Dept.
I ordered a new replacement battery under the warranty on August 18
because the battery that came with the unit is defective. (Only hold a
charge for 3 -  4 hours).
According to Uniden the BC245 XLT will only use that one nicad and no
other Uniden batteries can be substituted.

Do yourself and everyone else a favor and tell them all to call Primecell
(http://www.redwaveradio.com/), they sell a 1600ma NiMH pack
that is awesome, it's about $20 bucks, I got one and now ALL my friends have
ordered them, great packs, last more than twice as long as the original pack, I
am in no way affiliated aith this company, just a very satisfied customer, oh,
and by the way, I love my 245xlt too!!!

I am also using the battery pack from my SC150. I am also using an
aftermarket battery pack with the same specs and plug.

True, but if that pack leaked or somehow damaged that radio, will Uniden fix
it? Probably not, citing the statement referenced above. It's a CYA thing -
all companies do it.

Here's an option for the DIY type.  I visited my local Radio Shack
a couple of weeks ago and I noticed a recycle bin for dead Nicad
batteries on top of the battery display carousel.  I also noticed
several packs with the identical connector as the BC235/245.  I
asked permission to hack off a few connectors.  I was handed
a pair of cutters and told to 'help yourself'.  I now have a several
of the Uniden style connector as well as a couple of other styles.
Radio Shack has their faults but sometimes they are a plus.  ;-)

If the manufacturer requires you to use only their part to keep a warranty
in force, they are required, by law, to provide said part free. I believe it
is called the "moss-Ferguson" act. or something like that.

I'd be interested in the specific citation for that
proposition.  I am not aware of any such requirement.
