The Syracuse hamfest is *OFF* for 1997. The April LongWire will be
outshortly
and there's a one-page article in it on what eventually derailed the
event.
But in a nutshell, our terms of use for the Fairgrounds facilities would
prohibit the sale of any "computer-related" item at the hamfest. broadly
interpreted, this would have barred packet stations, logging software,
callbook CD ROMS and so forth. Last year this provision was not enforced
but
we were told that it would be enforced this year and several months of
negotiations with Fair management could not get around this issue.
Will it be back in 1998? I don't know. Stay tuned.

The above resulted from a direct threat by Peter Trapp to pull their
shows if
any other user sells any sort of computer product, new or used. If it
can
happen here it can happen where you are.
I am asking all hams to:
1- boycott Peter trapp shows
2- if you are a New York State resident, write the Governor
3- support your local hamfest
Don't let this happen to you.
