I contacted Bearcat/Uniden for a manual on my DX1000 general coverage
receiver. The reply?  We don't make it anymore, so we don't support it
anymore.  Well, folks, don't know about you, but I've bought my last
Bearcat/Uniden product.

that radio is what about 12-13 years old?, i dont think that uniden owned
bearcat when that was produced. every company can't support every product
forever,.

  YES, Uniden bought the "name" bearcat some time ago but never actually made
that product.

Hello Floyd:  Yes I had a problem with a Bearcat 220 scanner, a few years
ago, and wanted to send it in for repair. But Uniden will not fix the
older Bearcat scanners. I take this as a ploy to force the scanner buying
public to buy a new scanner. I bought a new Radio Schack Pro-2006, and got
the service manual, and fixed the Bearcat 220 myself. I make a point of
showing everyone my repaired Bearcat scanner, that Uniden refused to fix.
Then I show them my Radio Shack and AOR scanners.

Yep, I won't buy anything from Uniden, after that slap in the face.

a lot of the older scanners used propritary (sp?) components, parts that you
cant call a distrubutor and order off the shelf, the mfg. has x number of
extras produced for replacement parts and for service , when they are gone
they cannot repair any more of that unit. i dont think you or i would be
willing to pay the extra money that it would cost the mfg to stock enough of
every part for every radio they make. i dont know if this is correct but i
rember hearing that there is a law requireing companys to provide parts and
service for a minimum of 7 years.

 can any tell me of any radio manufacture that has been in existance for more
than a couple of years that can sell every part for every radio that thay have
ever made? how about every radio they made in the last 10 years?
i know that radio shack cant supply parts for my 15 year old sw reciener, i
accept that i am working arount the problem and working on a replacement part.
i dont *** and moan to the news group about that!

I doubt if Uniden would be able to repair the old Bearcat scanners even
if they wanted to. The BC-220 and BC-250's were made back around
1977-1979. That is back when Bearcat was owned by Electra. They used
alot of custom components in those scanners. That was almost 20 years
ago!! There is NO ploy to force anyone to change radios here.....sorry,

Hello Todd & Jeremy:  Yes I understand the issue of custom parts and the
logistics matter.  I have a top of the line Bearcat 300, and a Rengecy
scanner that will never be able to be repaired, due to Unidens lack of
repair support for these older scanners. Do you really think Uniden made a
market strategy decision to buy out Bearcat and Regency to help out the
electronics consumer. Yeah good call to hind behind the 7 year old support
law.

*** and complain, you bet.  But I will never buy a Uniden product ever
again.

Hello Jay......to be honest with you, I wondered the same thing 10 years
ago when Uniden bought Bearcat and Regency myself. I remember the
BC-350. I think it came out around 1980 or so, however I may be a bit
off on that. There's no doubt that they definately have a large share of
the police scanner market, if not a monopoly. I used to think Radio
Shack was a competitor, but it looks like most or all of their scanners
are made by Uniden now too. Mine is, I have an old Radio Shack
PRO-2026.....I've had it for about 4 years now. Have a great
