Yep, Those are real good. Also there are some on the hammods page.
Mainly concerning doing the mod for the power supply. I think pre
02000000 serial. If you have a gold label 830 this has already been done
from the factory. If silver label, it might have been done by a ham or
maybe not. Also some hints for the vfo drift problems but I think the
Measures article has this too. I just picked up a 830 a couple of months
ago. Still a good rig even considering the age. I like the cw filter/VBT
combo for cw. Also recommend doing the fine tuning of the VBT using the
Measures method. Gets it right on the money. Takes a little time to do,
but worth it. I put a freq counter right on the headfone jack to measure
the calibrate signal. Also I set my ssb response/carrier ocl this way.
Also you may be aware of this, but if you want a 830 to be super stable
like a 430 /440 ect just get a vfo-230 or a dfc-230. The built in vfo in
the 830 kinda drifty if you have abrupt changes of temp like I do when
my a/c cycles on. So I have to touch it up every once in a while. Good
luck, Mark

Good choice.... I own one too.  Still one of the best rigs ever made.
Go to this site:  http://www.vcnet.com/measures/

I actually have not done any mods to mine .... the factory service
bulletins for the TS-830S can be found at http://www.kenwood.net

Good luck.... you'll see why so many of these fine rigs are still in
service and why many hams who own one won't let them go.

Yep, Still a good rig. I have a 520 also and thought it would be hard to
beat the audio on that rig but I think I like the audio on the 830 even
better. The rf speech comp is excellent. One of the best on any rig I've
seen for cranking the average power up and still sounding pretty clean.
I've totally aligned the one I got and did the Measures mods to it. It's
a gold label so didn't have to do the factory mods. Best rig I've got
for cw. My drake r4 close, but not quite as steep filtered as the 830. I
almost bought a 530, but glad I backed out of that and got the 830 now.
Only 25 bucks more too than the price on the 530. The 830 the cream of
the crop for the old hybrid kenwoods. MK
