I was some times in HK but before the change. In this times you had
several ham shops in Kowloon area.... they had nerlay all brands, but no
european versions. they had only us and jap. versions. prices were not
so cheap, it was better to spend money into low priced watches.... hi hi

I have done business with a dealer called:
Wealthy #%%# . They are polite and curteous. The prices were much lower on the
high end stuff and about he same on the low end stuff. The best prices I have
seen is the AKIHARA in Japan.

I think you mean Akihabara, in Tokyo. Yes...best in the world for latest
and greatest gear.  Often on VHF/UHF gear, the band plans are different
(so be
careful what you buy to ensure it will work on same freq's as your home
country)
Some of the best back in the early 90's were T-Zone and X-One.

As for Hong Kong, I have found a good shop just across the street from
the
Holiday Inn, Golden Mile just up the street from the Star Ferry Peer in
Kowloon.
Good prices.  I think it's owned by a Thai man.  Just remember when
buying in HKG: Caveat emptor -- standard accessories sometimes become
"optional" - always do your homework, as a deal too good to be true
could come without a rechargeable battery and charger, without
microphone etc.   Also, check voltages. JA gear runs 100VAC, HK runs
220VAC.

Been there, done that....more than once.

sometimes you make out great. I purshased a Yaesu FT-890 when they came out at
the Akihabara in Japan (mail order). The radio CAME with the 500 HZ CW filter
standard as in the international version but the microphone was missing (mic
came with the USA version). Still I was far better off as the Crystal filter
cost $160 and the mic was $40.
Also the price of the radio was $300 cheaper than HRO was. I figure I paid $400
less since the filter was there already and I would have purchased it with the
radio .
