Red Wave Radio

I have a Yaesu FT-2400H 2m mobile; the lithium battery is dead.

This is not a problem - if you take the front of the radio off,
it's very easily accessible.

HOWEVER, the item is surface-mounted AND (this is the kicker)
straddles an IC.  Indeed, I believe it to be DOUBLE-SIDED
TAPED to the IC.

Has anyone ever replaced this particular or similarly-installed
battery?  What would you do to avoid damage, short of sending it
back to Yaesu?
