Hi, rec.radio.amateur.equipment readers,
Please pardon my attempt to become a newsgroup cop, but the newsgroup
rec.radio.amateur.equipment is attracting more and more "for sale" and
"wanted to buy" posts, and I hope I can make an improvement by politely
letting everyone know that this newsgroup is designed for the discussion of
equipment. There is another newsgroup -- "rec.radio.swap" that is
dedicated to ham radio equipment sales and trading. (I think because it
doesn't have the title "amateur" in it, some hams might not recognize
rec.radio.swap as an amateur radio newsgroup -- but it is.)
Why worry about this? Well, it's just much harder to look for subject
lines of interest when you have to wade through the "for sales."
Over the past few weeks, I've sent private mail to many of the hams who
posted "for sale" messages here, with the message printed above. I've
received many replies, and thankfully none were angry. Many hams saw so
many "for sales" here that they quite naturally assumed this was the place
to post them. Traditionally, it is not. I see some value in returning to
that tradition, since it makes scanning the newsgroup for more-or-less
technical discussion much easier. It would also make buying and selling
easier, with just one newsgroup to review.
This is a purely a personal message. I'm not connected with or acting in
any official capacity for the internet, usenet or the newsgroup. Hopefully
you will not take offense, and if you disagree, please feel free to follow
your own conscience.
73,
Gary KN4AQ
