Somebody ought to buy KTID

Somebody ought to buy KTID

There's a little, lame AC station in San Rafael (KTID) with a noble
heritage. Formerly KTIM, it is the alma mater of a good percentage of
the air talent in the Bay Area. In its prime, KTIM was a critically
lauded eclectic AOR, then a fella from Orange County
bought it up in the early 80s and proceeded to alienate
the listeners, and worse, the entire business community.
So here's the deal... he's in bankruptcy, according to several published
reports. This small station *is* viable... smack dab in the middle of
one of the richest counties in the country. There is a niche for
eclectic AOR in the Bay area...they could probably do a 1 share in SF
and break even, with retail bucks from marin and concert advertising
etc. KTIM meant a lot to many of us in the Bay area..there are more than
a few good broadcasters who would happily take a pay cut to go do
something fun and make that station work again. You could probably buy
it for a million if you are a good negotiater, although I understand the
owner, one Art Aster, wants more. It ain't *worth* more, and he knows
it. also includes 1510 am. Please, somebody buy this radio station,
then get out on the streets and convince the retail community that
KTIM is back and Aster is out!

[Moderator's Note:  I, to, remember the mid-70's KITM (98.3, isn't it?).  I
lived in the Haight (on Clayton) in the shadow of Sutra tower.  The big
stations were KSAN and KTIM, the latter was difficult due to the intense
energy from Sutra.  We also had KPOO, a 10 watt 'underground' station.  Ah,
the good ol days in Golden Gate park with my dog and KTIM on the box.  Times
change, indeed.  Bill]
