GE Superadio III - date codes- sensitivity problems

GE Superadio III - date codes- sensitivity problems

The 3/24/93 Radio World included an article where a spokesman for
Thomson Consumer Electronics indicated that early models of the SR3
were shipped with "severe sensitivity problems."

The date code is a 4 digit number found on the box or in the battery
compartment.   ignore the first #; the 2nd indicates year of manufacture,
the third and fourth digits indicate a week.

Anything with x201-x241 may have the sensitivity problem, according to
this article.

Early usage reports confirm this problem. Also note that some users
were able to improve sensititivy by swapping the polarity of some
connector; this was covered in a previous posting by another DXer.

The article says nothing about a recall; it just suggests trying
out the radio if a 241 or earlier date code before purchasing.

FYI Bennett Bros in Mahwah NJ has the SR3 in stock for about $40.
