BBC World Service is NOT avaliable on e-mail

Post by Int'l Audience Corresponden » Fri, 28 Jan 1994 18:19:10

A couple of days ago I posted information on an e-mail address
for BBC World Service.  Since then we have been deluged.

Many people write with information, or with requests for programme
guides etc.  That's fine.

However, a lot of people write asking for details of the BBC's
e-mail news service.  Most of them seem to have read the headline
of the article but not the article itself.

Let me make this perfectly clear.  BBC World Service does *NOT*, to
my knowledge, have any sort of e-mail news service.  We do, however,
have an e-mail address for CORRESPONDENCE.  It is

Any mail to that address goes to the International Audience Correspondence
department, which handles incoming mail and which will deal with e-mail
in much the same way as it does with letters.

It has been pointed out to me that there is at least one e-mail type
service from the BBC WS. BBC Monitoring Service's publication
SWB media (formerly WBI) is available on-line direct from
BBC Monitoring Service.  This is a paid, dial-up service;  you pay a
subscription and are then allowed to dial a bulletin board in
the UK and download info.

It does *NOT* provide BBC News, and it is *NOT* available on Internet,
Compuserve etc.

You can find out more by writing to
        Marketing Department
        BBC Monitoring Service
        Caversham Park
        Reading RG4 8TZ
        U.K.

or by telephoning
        +44 734 469289

If you are interested in an e-mail equivalent to this and would be willing
to pay, then you might like to tell them.  If there are enough people
interested they might find it worth trying.
