Opinions of new Sony ICF-SW7600GR???

Post by Dan Epstei » Wed, 09 May 2001 11:21:08

Does anyone have an opinion on the Sony ICF-SW7600GR?  It seems too new
for reviews, at least I haven't found any.  Has anyone out there played
with one?
Thanks,
Dan

Dan,

I have a 7600G, the old model, and it came with a very useful faux-leather
carrying case.  According to my Sony catalogue the new model does not, at
least here in the UK.  To me, this omission more than outweighs the benefits
of 100 memories.

Carrying cases are useful - it took me 15 years to find something suitable
for my ICF-4900 pocket receiver.  But lots of memories are of limited value
in my opinion.  "Did I store Radio New Zealand on #68?  Or was it #86?
Might as well look it up in WRTH and just enter the frequency."

Of course, it may be that Sony has improved the receiver in ways which do
not show up in printed specifications .. time will tell.

Regards

Tony Skitt

Apparently the unit comes with a carring case in the US -- I'll know
shortly as I just ordered one from Grove Ent for $174.99.

The new receiver from Sony won't be available until sometime next month...will
be priced the same as the old '7600G, $169.95.

Joe Hanlon in Philadelphia

My local Sony Centre has got them on the shelf.  I've seen them.

>Might want to tell "J and R" that.  They claim to have them in stock.

We've spent two weeks with the ICF-SW7600GR, and our review is now posted
at the Radio Netherlands' Media Network site http://www.medianetwork.nl/.

Too bad you didn't check to see if the synch locks better than the 7600G's.
