used this frequency for 15 years and we know from our contacts at Radio
Tanzania that they are in no position to get any more shortwave transmitters
on the air.
The mystery was solved today when Sentech told us that they are relaying
Radio Tanzania from Meyerton during the election period. (There are general
elections in Tanzania on 29th October.) They want all Tanzanians to be able
to hear them during this important period and there's more chance of doing
this from Meyerton than from Dar es Salaam.
The schedule is:
0300-0455 on 7290
0900-1100 on 15435
1300-1525 on 15435
1530-1655 on 7280
1800-2115 on 7280
All are from a 500-kW transmitter, beaming at Tanzania. I would expect all
programming to be in Swahili. The relays will last until November or
December.
On another matter I reported last Friday, we heard the last broadcast from
Voice of Human Rights and Freedom for Iran on Saturday (30th September).
They said they were closing "with the greatest regret", but gave no
explanation.
